Subway Coming to New Retail Building at Winchester and Williams

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

A new Subway franchise is coming to the new retail building at 980 South Winchester Boulevard.

The new Subway sign appeared around Friday, December 18.

With an existing Subway location at Santana Row and another at the corner of South Winchester and Campbell Avenue, this makes Subway the third most common franchise on South Winchester Boulevard. The most common is 7-11 with five locations, although the 7-11 at South Winchester and Sunnyoaks Avenue was recently closed due to a fire on November 20, tying it with Starbucks with four locations.

Holiday Events at Psycho Donuts

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Psycho Donuts at 2006 South Winchester Boulevard is holding a number of seasonal events.

Psycho Donuts’ Holiday events begin on Saturday, December 12 with “A Nightmare Before Hanukkah.” Beginning at 10:00am, customers can perform Karaoke in the Psycho music studio, courtesy of Korkaraoke. Customers who perform a holiday karaoke song will receive a free donut. Original Christmas art work and off-beat ornaments, by local artists such as Christine Benjamin and Carlos Villas, will be available for sale. Unusual stocking stuffers will also be available for purchase. A new donut, The Star of Donut, will be available to help usher in the first day of Hanukkah.

In parallel, Psycho Donuts will launch “The Twelve Daze of Donuts,” beginning on Saturday December 12. Each day, another off-beat Christmas donut will become available. On Christmas Eve, customers can order a dozen of the unusual Christmas donuts. The first Christmas donut, Jingle Balls, is a combination of red and green donut holes with an eggnog custard filling. Grandma’s Revenge is an “injured reindeer” donut, a reference to the perennial Christmas song “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”.

The Burger King previously at this location has been closed for 10 years or more.

Chipotle is a fast-food Mexican Grill, serving standard fare such as burritos, tacos, and chips and salsa.

The banner appeared recently on the building. There is no information about how soon the new restaurant will open. Permits filed with the City of San Jose in November show a plan to demolish the existing fast-food restaurant and the construction of a new 2377 square foot fast food restaurant on a 0.64 gross acre site. A permit filed in 2007 showed plans of a Starbucks opening at that location.
