A new Subway franchise is coming to the new retail building at 980 South Winchester Boulevard.

The new Subway sign appeared around Friday, December 18.
With an existing Subway location at Santana Row and another at the corner of South Winchester and Campbell Avenue, this makes Subway the third most common franchise on South Winchester Boulevard. The most common is 7-11 with five locations, although the 7-11 at South Winchester and Sunnyoaks Avenue was recently closed due to a fire on November 20, tying it with Starbucks with four locations.

Chipotle is moving into the abandoned Burger King building at 369 South Winchester Boulevard between Fuel and Khanh’s Garden, across from Santana Row.

Banner showing Chipotle coming soon
The Burger King previously at this location has been closed for 10 years or more.
Chipotle is a fast-food Mexican Grill, serving standard fare such as burritos, tacos, and chips and salsa.
The banner appeared recently on the building. There is no information about how soon the new restaurant will open. Permits filed with the City of San Jose in November show a plan to demolish the existing fast-food restaurant and the construction of a new 2377 square foot fast food restaurant on a 0.64 gross acre site. A permit filed in 2007 showed plans of a Starbucks opening at that location.

An area man was struck by a falling tree branch just outside Sushi Boat Kazoo at the corner of Hamilton and South Winchester Boulevard on Sunday, August 30.

Area Man Struck By Falling Tree Branch
When asked how long he had been under the branch, the man replied, “Don’t just stand there! Help me up! This branch is heavy!”
Branches from street trees along Winchester Boulevard occasionally fall. However, fallen branches typically are found just after a stormy or windy night. The weather on this Sunday had been calm.
When asked about the weather conditions when he was struck, the fallen man replied, “Are you kidding me? There’s this huge branch pinning me down, and you want to talk about the weather? Can’t you call someone?”
Emergency crews arrived on the scene after contacted by a Kazoo patron who thought he saw a cat stuck higher up in the tree.
