Recycling Collection Day

Saturday, June 11th is the Recycling Collection Day which benefits the Lynhaven Neighborhood Association. Located at the International Christian Center’s parking lot, it runs from 9 am – 3 pm.

They are using GreenMouse Recycling. Including electronics, they also take microwave ovens, small applicances, and scrap metal.

The International Christian Center is located at 3275 Williams Road, close to Eden Avenue.

Psycho Donuts to appear on new Food Network show

Psycho Donuts at 2006 South Winchester Boulevard will be featured in a new Food Network show.

Food Network host Adam Gertler will be filming a segment at Psycho Donuts on Monday, April 5 for the upcoming Food Network show “Kid in a Candy Store”. Psycho Donuts will be open to the public all day, as usual. People who wish to appear on this future broadcast should arrive between noon and 1pm (a signed waiver will be required, minors must be accompanied by adult). The details are subject to change and Psycho Donuts advises those interested to watch their Facebook Event Page or Psycho Blog for more details.

Psycho Donuts Birthday Event

Psycho Donuts at 2006 South Winchester Boulevard is celebrating its first year anniversary with the return of discontinued donuts, contests, and musical events on Saturday, March 6.

Psycho Donuts opened last year amongst much controversy. Mental heath advocates complained about the names of some of the donut creations and some of the decor. Psycho Donuts responded by renaming some of the donuts and adopting a more “rock and roll” theme.

Psycho KorKaraoke will at 10am. The winner of the Donut Guy Naming Contest will be announced at 11am, and the winner of the #1 Psycho Fan Contest will be announced at 1pm. Musical group Picture Atlantic will perform at 1:30pm.

Holiday Events at Psycho Donuts

Psycho Donuts at 2006 South Winchester Boulevard is holding a number of seasonal events.


Psycho Donuts’ Holiday events begin on Saturday, December 12 with “A Nightmare Before Hanukkah.” Beginning at 10:00am, customers can perform Karaoke in the Psycho music studio, courtesy of Korkaraoke. Customers who perform a holiday karaoke song will receive a free donut. Original Christmas art work and off-beat ornaments, by local artists such as Christine Benjamin and Carlos Villas, will be available for sale. Unusual stocking stuffers will also be available for purchase. A new donut, The Star of Donut, will be available to help usher in the first day of Hanukkah.

In parallel, Psycho Donuts will launch “The Twelve Daze of Donuts,” beginning on Saturday December 12. Each day, another off-beat Christmas donut will become available. On Christmas Eve, customers can order a dozen of the unusual Christmas donuts. The first Christmas donut, Jingle Balls, is a combination of red and green donut holes with an eggnog custard filling. Grandma’s Revenge is an “injured reindeer” donut, a reference to the perennial Christmas song “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”.

Psycho Donuts owner Jordan Zweigoron said, “Most retail environments serve up an ordinary Christmas experience. Psycho Donuts aims to break that tradition, and deliver something extraordinary and different. Santa may not be delivering gifts to Psycho Donuts this year.”

Psycho Donuts holds special Halloween events

Psycho Donuts will be holding a number of events at their shop at 2006 South Winchester Boulevard in Campbell on October 31.

Psycho Donuts owner Jordan Zweigoron said, “Halloween and Psycho Donuts go together like Frank & Stein. On Halloween, prepare for crazy antics all day and night. We’ll have Zombie Nurses, green donuts, monster-inspired original artwork for sale, and even donuts dressed in costume.”

The schedule of events is:
10:00am – 12:00pm; Psycho Costume Karaoke. A collision between costumes, karaoke, and padded cells – with insane KJ, Korkaraoke. Customers who perform karaoke in costume will receive a free regular donut.
1:00pm – 1:30pm; Zombie Nurse Costume Contest. Come dressed as a Zombie Nurse. The best costume, by popular customer demand, will win a Psycho Donuts t-shirt.
2:00pm – 2:30pm; Bobbing for Donuts. 4 lucky contestents must pick up a donut hole from a trough of soupy donut glaze (no hands allowed). Contestants to be selected among Twitter followers and Psycho Donuts Mobile Fan club members.
9:00pm – 10:00pm; Live Music. DJ/singer act, Raw-G$, will perform a live set, in costume.

Flamenco and Sevillana night at the El Habanero

El Habanero Restaurant will be hosting a Flamenco and Sevillana night on Sunday, November 1st at 6pm. The event includes a show and dinner.

Flamenco is a Spanish musical genre, also popular in Japan. Sevillana is a popular flamenco-style dance from Seville. Koko de la Isla will be dancing. De la Isla has been studying dance from the age of 10 and has studied dance and choreography from the University of California Irvine. Also performing will be musicians Geoff Hawkins on guitar and Virginia Juan on vocals. De la Isla will be joined by dancer Pamela Martinez.

Dinner will be your choice of Ropa Vieja with rice, beans, salad, bread and plantains, Arroz con pollo, salad, bread and plantains, Pechuga a la plancha, rice, beans, salad, bread and plantains. A vegetarian option of Vegie fajitas with rice and beans will also be available.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children under 11 in advance. Tickets at the door are $30 and $15. For reservations, call (408) 557-8914.

El Habanero is a new Cuban/Mexican restaurant located at 3132 Williams Road behind Mizu Sushi in the Grocery Outlet complex. It is in the spot previously occupied by Angelino’s Pizza. They are open for lunch 10:30-2:30 and dinner 4:30—9:00, closed Mondays.

Green Cup to hold Grand Opening Event

The new Green Cup Yogurt at the First Century Plaza at 747 South Winchester Boulevard is holding a Grand Opening event on Friday, June 25, at 4 pm.

picture-7Mayor Chuck Reed and Councilmember Pete Constant will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon will be cut at 4 pm, and free samples will be available from 4 pm to 6 pm.

E-Waste Recycling Event this Saturday

The Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley is sponsoring a free Electronic Waste Recycling event this Saturday, June 20, from 9 am to 3 pm at Archbishop Mitty High School.

Members of the public can take their old computers, monitors, televisions, telephones, and other unwanted electronic equipment to 5000 Mitty Way for free disposal. EarthCare Recycling will take the items and provide them to ECS Refining for processing, guaranteeing all items are recycled. ECS Refining keeps all items from landfills and does not export waste to other parts of the world. Earthcare Recycling wipes all hard drives so they are free of all your information. ECS Refining also shreds the drives once Earthcare sends the drives to them.

Paws in the Park at Santana Row

Furry Friends Rescue and Kara’s Cupcakes are putting on Paws in the Park at Park Valencia in Santana Row on Saturday, May 30th from 1 pm to 4 pm.

pawsintheparkEvents include a Doggie Fashion Show, raffle prizes, dog contests, and an adoption showcase.

Profits from Kara’s Sweet Vanilla cupcakes go to Furry Friends Rescue.

Furry Friends Rescue is an all-volunteer non-profit Bay Area companion animal rescue organization, saving unadopted dogs and cats destined to be euthanized in Bay Area shelters. Since forming in November 1998, the group has rescued over 4400 dogs and cats.

The outdoor Santana Row mall is known for its pet friendly atmosphere. Visitors can dine at one of the many restaurants with outdoor seating with their dog. Look for the “Paws Welcome Here” decal for pet friendly shops and restaurants. The Furry Friends Rescue booth will have Pet-Friendly shopping guides available.
