Blockbuster closing

The Blockbuster location at the corner of Winchester and Payne is closing soon.

The video retail outlet at 1303 South Winchester Boulevard joins several other businesses at West Park Plaza that are closing or have closed. At the end of 2010, the Tuesday Morning discount retailer closed, and the Safeway is slated to close in early April. The new GEN Japanese Cuisine never opened.

A new sign for GEN Japanese Cuisine has been hanging at West Park Plaza for months, but renovations for the new restaurant seem to have halted.

The new sign for the restaurant appeared around September 2010. However, peeking though the window, it appears that construction has not advanced since then.

Regency Centers, the owner of the West Park Plaza located at Payne and Winchester, had announced in May 2010 that they had leased space to Masa’s Sushi Japanese Cuisine, a sit-down restaurant serving Japanese cuisine, sushi and noodles. It is believed that Masa’s is now named GEN.

Safeway at South Winchester and Payne to Close

The Safeway at the West Park Plaza at the corner of South Winchester and Payne will be closing.

The Silicon Valley Business Journal reports that the Safeway locations at both the West Park Plaza and Westgate Mall will be closing when the new larger store opens at the old Mervyn’s location on Hamilton Avenue.

A store employee told the South Winchester News that the closure will occur this spring.

The UPS Store moves from Orchid Plaza to West Park Plaza

The UPS Store has moved from the Orchid Plaza at 812 South Winchester Boulevard to the West Park Plaza at 1321 South Winchester Boulevard at the corner of South Winchester and Payne.

Also moved out of Orchid Plaza is Audible Arts. They have moved to 412 East Campbell Avenue in downtown Campbell.

Restaurant AI closes

Opened earlier this spring, Restaurant AI at 1317 South Winchester Boulevard has closed.

An eviction noticed was taped to the front door by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office on October 23, 2009. The restaurant’s web site states “We closed the restaurant. We really appreciate you coming.”
